River trekking – the Limarò canyon

Discover a microcosm just a few kilometers away from the traffic, where the only sound is that of running water. Over thousands of years the river forged a gap between various layers of limestone to form one of the biggest canyons in the Alps, with walls which tumble impressively downwards for hundreds of meters.

The itinerary wades through simple pools and scrambles up easy rock faces and leads to the old Balandin bridge which up to the C18 was the only connection between the Lower Sarca valley and the Brenta Dolomites. The most spectacular section begins here: beaches constantly recreated by the floods, natural slides eroded by the water, high walls which hide the sky and a lush vegetation create a truly unique environment.

Leave the canyon at Sarche and warm up on the beach at the foot of the Dain rock face, first climbed by Cesare Maestri, the so-called Spider of the Dolomites. A shuttlebus will transport you back to the Outdoor Village.
