Segron - Malga Zures - Doss Casina: in the footsteps of the Great War

The itinerary follows a section of the Peace path, a 450km outing along the First World War battle front. Shortly after the village Nago the limestone pillars which were once defence lines are now some of the most beautiful crags in Europe, often immortalised in international climbing magazines with the breathtaking panorama behind the climbers. At the summit of Segron the view opens out onto the entire Garda Trentino region and the SAT experts will help identify the lines of the articulated defence system which had been created to protect the region.
At Malga Zures the path leaves the thick forest of hornbeam, durmast and ilex grovesand climbs up into the beech forest above Lake Loppio. Border posts, trenches and war graves abound in this area, a a brief deviation from the main path leads to Dosso Alto, the military position first held by the Austrians then the Italians which is a typical example of complex defensive structure.
Reach Malga Casina and descend back to the start along path No. 601 from Monte Altissimo and the mule trakc which leads past the base of the Segron rock climbing area.
